Volunteers Brighten Up Our Church Home

Printer-friendly version

Twenty-one First UU volunteers stepped up on Saturday (July 22nd) for a “workday” at First UU. Because of their work, things are a little bit brighter, cleaner, and more inviting.

Besides its main mission of addressing large the issues entailed in its mission of “Keeping the Roof Up and the Weeds Down,” the Facilities Cluster is charged with helping assist church leadership and staff with the thousand little details that make our church home.

Some of the tasks that the volunteers took on this Saturday included:

  • Vacuuming and repairing every cushion in the sanctuary pews
  • Changing out lightbulbs throughout the church complex.
  • Scraping the gunk up that gravitates around the entrance thresholds and cleaning the glass.
  • Removing the leftover Scotch Tape left on doors and other surfaces from posters past
  • Scrubbing and power washing wooden benches outside (varnish to follow).

In the process, there was a lot of fun, sharing a nice lunch, and some serious bonding and conversations about the direction of First UU. Bonus: Kevin Kellogg brought a sack of homegrown tomatoes to share!
